What are we trying to do?

Educational Data Insights (EDI), was founded in 2023 by Andy after many discussion with colleagues.

Our story began with numerous discussions on how students can improve their data storytelling using Microsoft PowerBI, a leading global software tool. We noticed a lack of online courses aligned with authentic use cases in education, and that's when we had the idea of creating our own courses. And just like that, Educational Data Insights was born.

At EDI, we specialize in developing your Microsoft PowerBI skills through a step-by-step process that emphasizes effective and impactful data visualizations underpinned by good design principles. Whether you're a novice or an experienced PowerBI Desktop user, our courses are designed to suit your needs.

What sets us apart is our team of course designers, who have over 50 years of collective experience working in UK and International Higher Education. Their roles include learning designers, service managers, staff and student trainers, academics, researchers, and leadership roles. With such diverse experiences, we draw on this wealth of knowledge to develop authentic scenarios and data sets extracted from sector-leading learning technologies.

Our online courses help you develop your digital and data literacy skills in the intersection of narrative, data, and visualization—the three elements of successful storytelling with data.

We also provide monthly updates on all things data visualizations and data storytelling using Microsoft PowerBI. Our newsletter is a great resource to stay up to date with the latest trends, stories, examples and techniques.
